     General Introduction

 

College of Finance, Jiangxi Normal University (JXNU) has a long history which is dated back to 1949. Being through different stages of development including Jiangxi Banking Staff Management School, Jiangxi Banking Institute and Jiangxi College for Banking Staff, the college was formally established and inaugurated by the Secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee Jianzhu Meng in April 2003. During its history of development, the college has graduates well-trained with professional skills in finance and economics working in both academia and industry. Those alumni, who cast a solid foundation for talent training, help us gain a reputation for the dominant role in banking staff training in Jiangxi province.

The college currently bases on three departments including economics, finance and accounting for undergraduate education. It also has other research organizations such as Applied Economics Experiment Center (Provincial Experimental Teaching Center), Regional Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research Center (Provincial Humanities and Social Science Research Base), and International Institute for Financial Research, which deliver research postgraduate programmes in industrial economics, economic decision-making and financial management, and accounting, as well as taught postgraduate programmnes in finance and accounting.

There are currently 81 faculty members in the college of finance (JXNU), including 68 full-time teachers: professors - 15 (22.1%), associate professors – 40 (58.8%), members with doctorates – 30 (44.1%), members with master degree above – 54 (79.1%). The college has also employed over 70 well-known internal and external professionals and scholars as guest professors. These include 1 member of the State Education Commission, 1 provincial distinguished lecturer, 1 outstanding supervisor over the National “Challenge Cup”, 3 top 10 and 7 top 100 lecturers in the University Teaching Competition, and 1 lecturer winning the excellence award in Micro-lecture Competition.

There are currently 2,242 undergraduates and 263 postgraduates in the college of finance (JXNU). The college is fully devoted to student services and professional training and endeavor to provide opportunities for students to learn and progress. Students are actively involved in academic and innovation activities, winning awards including the 1st prize of College Student Extracurricular Academic Work in the 13th National “Challenge Cup” and the 1st price of College Student Micro-video Contestant sponsored by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).

The college is entitled to a Provincial Experimental Teaching Center with finance, accounting and economic labs as well as a library resources center, which better caters for the needs of teaching, research and learning at all levels. Meanwhile, it is also funded to build up a finance innovation lab by the central government in support of university construction in Midwest regions.  

The college has succeeded in the application for 10 research projects funded by both the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation in China as well as over 70 key research projects funded by both provincial government and companies, and has published more than 150 academic papers in key journals as well as 21 books in most recent 3 years.

The college makes full use of its advantages in academic disciplines and talents to serve the local economy, assuming responsibilities for staff training (about 10,000 people) in a number of financial institutions in recent years. Meanwhile, it also strengthens international collaboration and has signed cooperation agreements with ESC Rennes School of Business (France), Lincoln University (UK) and etc. The college invites international scholars for lecturing and exchanges and also welcomes international students to study here.

Students are free to choose from the field of industrial organization and government regulation, modern industrial research, and finance theory and policy. Modules of the programme include intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, principles of industrial economics, industrial organization theory, industrial policy research, intermediate econometrics, and industrial economic theory and research methods. Graduates are expected to find a position in third-level education institutions, financial (research) institutions, government agencies, and companies.
